You Can Finally Play Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Californication' Video Game

While the Red Hot Chili Peppers' video game-themed music video for "Californication" doesn't look nearly as impressive now as it did in 1999, some RHCP fans never gave up on the dream of a real Chili Peppers game.

"Californication" was an instant hit on MTV and a major turning point for the band, which was back on track after languishing for a few years prior to guitarist John Frusciante's return.

While the "Californication" music video included footage of the band performing the song, its prevailing theme borrowed elements of several Playstation 2 games of the day, including Grand Theft Auto, auto-racing game Gran Turismo and snowboarding game SSX.

Now, 23 years later, independent game developer Miquel Camps Orteza has created a downloadable version of the Californication game for fellow Chili Peppers fans to enjoy for free.

"I wanted to play that game so bad," Orteza writes in a blog post announcing the game. "It's 2022 and I haven't seen anyone made [sic] the game so I challenged myself to create it.

"I have selected some epic moments from the video and turned into 7 levels each one with different game mechanics, I hope you like this game."

While Orteza's game doesn't include RHCP music (after all, he isn't asking to be sued), he's included YouTube links in the game so fans can opt to stream the music while they play.
