The jury for Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex trafficking trial has finally been selected following a brief delay.
On Monday morning, May 12, the prosecution and the defense had the opportunity to sift through 45 potential jurors of the initial 150 citizens who were called to participate. 12 jurors and six alternates were selected, with eight men and four women. Six alternates, including four men and two women, were also chosen ahead of the opening statements from the prosecution and the defense. According to NBC News, all jurors and alternates are residents of Manhattan, the Bronx, and Westchester.
The main jurors range hold occupations from various industries that have no connection to the world of entertainment. Among them are an investment analyst, a physician assistant, a massage therapist, a scientist, a social worker, and an architect. The youngest juror is a 30-year-old deli clerk who lives with her mother and brother. Meanwhile, the eldest juror is a 74-year-old woman who works as a treatment coordinator. While they're all different genders and races, some of them have admitted that they've seen the infamous video of Combs beating his ex-girlfriend Cassandra "Cassie" Ventura inside a hotel in 2016. She's expected to testify publicly during the trial.
"I will make every effort to move trial along," U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian told the jurors. "We will keep your names and identity in confidence, that personal information will not be made public and this is in no way unusual."
Judge Subramanian said the trial is expected to last until July 4, however, it could run longer. He instructed them not to form an opinion about the defendant or anyone in particular until all of the evidence is presented. He also prohibited them from talking about the case with anyone or posting about it on social media.
Sean "Diddy" Combs is charged with five counts of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
