The Black Keys are gearing up to release their 13th album No Rain No Flowers and visited ALT 104.5 to discuss the album's creation. The duo have released two songs from the project — "The Night Before" and "Babygirl" — and revealed that the recorded nearly 20 songs but narrowed it down to 11. They also spoke about how they were able to achieve the old-school sound on this album, something they've been doing their whole career but not with the equipment they wanted.
"Dan [Auerbach] acquired a Universal Audio mixing desk from the early-sixties, late-fifties," drummer Patrick Carney explained. "It's like the tube desk called a 610 and they’re very sought after."
"it's the kind of thing where we've always been trying to sort of make something sound what we thought sounded like that, and then to actually be able to work on it's a whole different ballgame," he continued.
"Yeah we were like, ‘how can we make it sound s****y again?" Auerbach added with a laugh.
The Black Keys have yet to unveil a release date for No Rain No Flowers; however, they did announce North American, UK and European tour dates in support for the album. The tour kicks off May 23 in Oklahoma. Listen to the full podcast episode and check out a full list of tour dates below.
