Connor Lotterman, a 19-year-old engineering student at Grand Valley State University, tragically died after being struck by a bullet during a house party in Tallmadge Township, Michigan. The incident occurred when a 20-year-old suspect fired multiple rounds through the floor of an upstairs bedroom, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. One of the bullets hit Lotterman in the head, leading to his death the following day.

Ottawa County Sheriff's Office Capt. Jake Sparks described the shooting as "intentional," noting that multiple rounds were discharged, making it more than an accidental event. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the incident, and all individuals involved were known to each other.

Lotterman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries. The Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is reviewing the case for potential criminal charges against the suspect, whose name has not been released.

Grand Valley State University expressed deep sorrow over Lotterman's death, with Dean of Students Aaron Haight stating, "The Grand Valley community is saddened by Connor’s tragic death." The university is offering support services to students and staff during this difficult time.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of firearm safety. Capt. Sparks urged gun owners to store firearms securely and separate them from ammunition to prevent such tragedies.
