The fifth inmate who escaped from a New Orleans jail has been recaptured after a days-long manhunt. Corey Boyd, 19, was taken into custody on Tuesday (May 20) in New Orleans. Boyd had been held at the Orleans Justice Center on charges including second-degree murder and aggravated battery. He now faces an additional charge of simple escape.

The escape involved ten inmates, five of whom have been recaptured within New Orleans city limits and are now held at the maximum security Louisiana State Penitentiary. The remaining five escapees, identified as Leo Tate, Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Lenton Vanburen, and Antoine Massey, are still at large and considered armed and dangerous, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill. The escapees reportedly used a tool to cut through steel bars behind a toilet and sink fixture, leaving a mocking message, "To Easy LoL," on the wall.

A maintenance worker, Sterling Williams, 33, has been arrested for allegedly assisting in the escape. Williams reportedly shut off the water to a cell, allowing the inmates to remove the toilet and sink unit and escape through the wall. He claimed he complied after being threatened with a homemade knife.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams expressed fear for his safety, noting that two lawyers involved in prosecuting one of the inmates have left town due to concerns of retaliation.

The search for the remaining escapees continues, with law enforcement urging the public to remain vigilant.
