Rap Rising: Lil Wayne Channels LL COOL J For New Banger 'Bells' Off New LP

Lil Wayne just dropped his new album Tha Carter VI and it's got a few noteworthy tracks with some surprising samples.

Weezy's 14th solo studio album, which dropped on Friday, June 6, has 19 tracks featuring a slew of rising and seasoned artists across various genres. Following the fanfare of his intro "King Carter" and "Welcome To The Carter," Wayne channels his inner LL COOL J on "Bells," which samples the Queens MC's 1985 hit "Rock The Bells." The Young Money co-founder continues to pay homage to the rap game on the next track with BigXthaPlug, "Hip-Hop" featuring Jay Jones, but he doesn't stop there.

Lil Wayne also samples another timeless rap hit on his song "Banned From NO." Beatmakers TheNightAftr & Kamo cooked up a dope instrumental inspired by N.O.R.E's 1998 Swizz Beatz-produced banger "Banned From T.V." featuring Nature, Big Pun, Cam'ron, Jadakiss & Styles P. In addition to the handful of rap samples, Wayne also taps into his rock side by sampling Weezer's "Island In The Sun" on "Island Holiday."

Tunechi's "Hip-Hop" and "Bells" tops iHeartRadio's Rap Rising playlist this week. The weekly playlist also features new music from Lil Yachty, GloRilla, Little Simz and more. Check out this week's brand-new rap releases from Sada Baby, Logic, Chicken P, French Montana and more below.
