A Georgia couple, Sarah Pombert and Joseph Turner, were recently arrested for second-degree child cruelty after allegedly leaving a three-year-old child in a backyard shed without electricity or running water. The alleged abuse occurred from May 1 to May 22 in Douglasville, according to arrest warrants filed by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The child, identified as Bjorn Turner, was reportedly left unsupervised, unbathed, and unclothed in the shed.
The couple faces felony charges for causing "cruel or excessive mental or physical pain" to the child. As reported by People, the shed was described as a dirty living space, lacking basic amenities.
A neighbor, Matthew Govoni, expressed sadness for the child and hoped for their well-being. He told WSB that the couple had lived at the property for over a decade and that the shed recently burned down during Memorial Day weekend.
Pombert and Turner are currently being held at the Douglas County Jail, with no defense attorney listed. Their custody status and bond information have not been released.
