Lorde's upcoming album Virgin is deeply personal. She's already shared the song that makes her "the proudest," the project's second single "Man of the Year," and during a recent visit to the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, the singer-songwriter opened up about a song on the tracklist that "destroys" her.
“There’s a song that I love so much that’s called ‘Clearblue’ and it’s about unprotected sex and just this experience of taking a pregnancy test and this flood of emotions that goes through your body," Lorde explained when asked to speak about one of the "f***ing slammers" on the album.
“Whatever you want it to say, it’s such a, like, moment,” she added. “And that whole song is just so…it destroys me. Like, I can’t even really listen to it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, she opened up about how she came up with the album's title. “It speaks to a sort of purity, but the album is quite sexual, so it wasn’t sexual purity," Lorde explained. "Virgin steel, virgin hair, all of these things that denote purity, but I’m also kind of always trying to take me to my teen self.”
Virgin is slated for a June 27 release. In September, Lorde plans to hit the road on a world tour. Watch the "Man of the Year" music video below and see the full list of tour dates here.
