The Green Bay Packers are reportedly planning to release former All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander on Monday (June 9), sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
"The #Packers are releasing star CB Jaire Alexander today, sources say," Rapoport wrote on his X account. "The #Packers and Jaire Alexander agreed to explore a potential trade this spring, while a restructured contract was also discussed. In the end, Green Bay and Alexander move on with a clean break."
Rapoport also appeared on Good Morning Football and reiterated that the Packers intended to trade Alexander earlier in the offseason.
"After an offseason of wondering and discussions and some trade talks the Packers are, in fact, moving on from Jaire Alexander," Rapoport said. "Remember, this has been one that has been up and down, back and forth, for the last several months, actually the last several years."
Alexander is two years removed from being selected as a Second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler for the second time in his career, however, has since been limited to just seven starts in each of the last two seasons due to injuries. The former University of Louisville standout missed the final six games of the 2024 regular season and Wild Card Round loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles due to a PCL tear, which required a knee scope.
Alexander recorded 16 tackles, two interceptions, seven passes defended, one fumble recovery and one touchdown in 2024.
