Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was briefly hospitalized on Wednesday (June 25) after feeling lightheaded while working out at the Senate gym. The 74-year-old New York senator was treated for dehydration and has since returned to work at the Capitol. According to a spokesperson, Schumer's hospitalization was "out of an abundance of caution," and he is now in good health.

"Leader Schumer was at the Senate gym this morning and got lightheaded. Out of an abundance of caution, he went to the hospital to be treated for dehydration and is now back at work in the Capitol," Schumer's office said in a statement posted on X by Chad Pergram.

The spokesperson also emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding extreme heat, as the East Coast is currently experiencing a significant heatwave with temperatures reaching triple digits. The National Weather Service has issued warnings about the ongoing heatwave, urging residents to take precautions as high temperatures and humidity levels pose health risks.
