Sean "Diddy" Combs will remain in jail until his sentencing hearing in October.
On Monday, August 4, Judge Arun Subramanian denied the Bad Boy Records founder's request for bail for the second time since he was convicted of violating the Mann Act last month. According to TMZ, Judge Subramanian said he found no "exceptional reasons" that would convince him to release Combs from jail before the mogul's sentencing hearing on October 3. Combs' attorneys filed another motion for bail last week, in which they argued that no precedent called for keeping him behind bars until he learns his fate.
Combs' attorneys originally proposed a $50 million bail package that would require him to remain on home detention, submit to drug testing, and limit visitors to only family and business associates. They also promised Combs would turn over his passport and maintained that his travel would only range from his home in Miami to the Southern District of New York.
Despite being open to more restrictions, Judge Subramanian wasn't convinced. In his response, the judge acknowledged the defense's point about the Mann Act, however, he also emphasized that there was "evidence of violence, coercion or subjugation in connection with the acts of prostitution." He also pushed back about the conditions of the jail where Combs is being held, and maintained that the facility's employees have kept the artist safe "even during an incident of threatened violence from an inmate."
Combs' team will have to play the waiting game for the time being. It's possible that President Donald Trump could step in with a pardon that would absolve him from his sentence. Trump is reportedly "seriously considering" granting Combs a pardon, but he hasn't made a final decision just yet.
