Shooting, Explosion, And Fire In Iowa Leave Two Dead, 1 Critically Injured

A tragic incident in Glenwood, Iowa, on Wednesday night (August 6) resulted in two deaths and one person critically injured. The event began with a shooting in a residential home, followed by an explosion and subsequent fire, according to Glenwood Police Chief Eric Johansen. The town of Glenwood, with a population of about 5,000, is located approximately 150 miles southwest of Des Moines.

The police received reports of the shooting around 8 p.m., prompting a swift response from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Iowa State Patrol. Two individuals were shot inside the home before an explosion occurred, leading to a fire that engulfed the residence.

A person of interest was taken into custody, but authorities have not confirmed if this individual is the one who was critically injured. The names of those involved have not been released, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, along with the Mills County Sheriff’s Office, is leading the ongoing investigation. Chief Johansen assured the community that this was an isolated incident and there is no further threat to public safety.

The scene remains secured as investigators work to gather more details. Additional information is expected to be released after the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation completes its assessment of the site.
