Authorities in Colorado have identified the 16-year-old shooter at Evergreen High School as Desmond Holly, who was reportedly radicalized by an extremist network. On Wednesday (September 10), Holly opened fire at the school, injuring two students before dying by suicide. The victims, including 18-year-old Matthew Silverstone, remain in critical condition.
Holly fired multiple rounds inside and outside the school. Police are investigating his social media accounts, which reportedly contain white supremacist content and antisemitic posts. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has obtained a warrant to search Holly’s phone, locker, and home.
The school went into lockdown during the shooting, which prevented further casualties. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley praised the quick actions of students and staff, saying, "Lives were saved yesterday because of the actions they took."
The investigation is ongoing, with multiple agencies involved due to the numerous crime scenes. The high school will remain closed for the rest of the week. Authorities have not yet determined how Holly obtained the weapon used in the attack.
The details of Holly's radicalization will be released at a later date. The community continues to support the victims and their families during this difficult time.
