D'Angelo's eldest son is publicly opening up about the late singer's death for the first time.
On Wednesday, November 12, Swayvo Twain, the son of late R&B singers D'Angelo and Angie Stone, posted a touching eulogy on Instagram. His post began with a video of himself talking about learning his father's history and where he came from in the last several weeks of his life.
“Knowing your father’s history and where he comes from … Really getting an understanding for that shit is, like, monumental,” Twain said in a brief clip below. "My dad came down to Atlanta and spent three weeks with me."
“Anything we ever missed, any questions I ever had, anything I wanted to ask him about, we just had every conversation and every laugh and every moment,” Twain continued. “It really cleared my spirit, man. That’s the time I needed him the most and he stood right there, tall.”
D'Angelo passed away last month following a private battle with pancreatic cancer. He was only 51 when he died. He was survived by Twain and his other children, Imani Archer, 26, and Morocco, 15. D'Angelo transitioned several months after Twain's mother, Angie Stone, died. The R&B singer's life was cut short after she was involved in a deadly car accident in Alabama. Twain said that he went into hiding after Stone's death, but he refused to do that after his dad passed.
“I’m not hiding this time,” Twain said. “Mom passed and left me with a lot of questions. After this funeral, I gained a lot of answers to things.”
In his post, Twain also included footage of him speaking at D'Angelo's funeral as well as a clip of his upcoming tribute song dedicated to his late father.
