Guitarist/singer Kathy Cashel met fellow guitarist James Brady at a concert in 1997. Their respective groups were breaking up, so they decided to play together as the Blisters with a revolving door of bassists and friend Jim Schaffer on drums. That band lasted for a year, but after the loss of their drummer they hired in drummer Jenn Thomas, kept the last bassist who they had hired (Drew Sutter), and started Cry Baby Cry.
