Echocast evolved out of the nucleus of a Tennessee group called Seven. Siblings Adam Redding and David Mast contributed guitar and vocals, respectively, but the band encountered difficulties when it came to finding and keeping decent drummers or bass players. As Redline, the brothers went on to put together an album titled Supernova, which was issued in 2000 by Freedom Records. For the release, guitarist Redding also took over duties on the bass.
