A venerable institution of Mexican popular music, Los Socios Del Ritmo was founded by Luis Antonio Ruiz in 1962, in the southeastern sea town of Campeche. Customarily associated with Mexican cumbia, over the course of its lengthy existence the band also displayed a keen ear for other tropical genres (merengue, ska, salsa, mambo), and even romantic balladry.
