No stranger to controversy, Singaporean singer Maia Lee gained some renown as a finalist on the first season of Singapore Idol before embarking on a solo recording career. Born in Singapore on January 31, 1983, she got her first taste of show business as a singer in the electronic dance group the Usual Suspects. The group released the album Oriental Love (2004) and scored an international hit with "The Love You Promised."
