Guitarist and songwriter Dufay initially earned his reputation playing on the New York, USA club circuit, collaborating with various bar bands as well as playing his own solo slots. Word-of-mouth praise of these performances eventually led to a contract with Polydor Records in 1980. Tender Loving Abuse was recorded live in the studio under the production tutelage of Jack Douglas.
