Hardcore band Tragedy were founded in the year 2000, in Memphis, Tennessee, by former members of local crustcore legends His Hero Is Gone -- vocalist/guitarist Todd Burdette, guitarist Yannick Lorrain, and drummer Paul Burdette -- but they soon relocated to Portland, Oregon in a bid for a fresh start. Once settled, the trio recruited another Tennessee transplant, bassist Billy Davis (of Nashville's From Ashes Rise), before recording its eponymous debut, released independently later that year, and licensed to Skuld Records in 2001.
