New York City (and the rest of the world) witnessed history on Sunday night (August 28) when the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards took over Madison Square Garden. From Beyoncé’s killer Lemonade medley to Drake's lovefest over Rihanna, it was yet another night to remember. If you missed out on the big show, iHeartRadio has you covered with all of the biggest highlights from the night. Take a look below!

1. Beyoncé Takes Over

Beyoncé reigned supreme at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. By performing some of her monster hits from her Lemonade album, Queen Bey practically gave everyone watching her a free show to her “Formation” tour. She sang "Pray You Catch Me," "Hold Up," "Sorry," "Don't Hurt Yourself," and "Formation," and reminded everyone why she was, in fact, the queen.

2. Michael Phelps Reveals The Secret Behind His Viral "Phelps Face"

A few weeks ago during the Summer Olympics in Rio, Merman Michael Phelps went viral after a photo was snapped of him listening to some music before he got in the water. During the VMAs, he finally revealed what he was listening to, thus the catalyst behind his viral meme, and it was Future’s “Stick Talk.”

3. Desiigner’s Reaction To Future’s Performance

Chance the Rapper was feeling Future’s rendition of "F**k Up Some Commas,” but most folks were focused on Desiigner’s reaction to the number. It was part confused and part offended.

4. Nick Jonas’s Celebrity Bacon Diner Party

Nick Jonas performed his current single “Bacon” … but he didn’t do INSIDE MSG … he kicked things off in a diner. The Tick Tock diner. And he invited all his celeb friends like DNCE (which includes his bro Joe Jonas), Ashley Graham, and more.

5. Britney’s Big VMA Return

Nine years since her disastrous “Gimme More” performance in 2007, Britney returned to VMA stage with G-Eazy for a medley performance of “Make Me” and the rapper’s smash, “Me, Myself & I.” It wasn’t memorable like her previous numbers on the VMA stage numbers, but she hit her mark and ultimately did the best she could have done.

6. Kanye's Moment

Kanye West’s four minutes onstage at the VMAs did not disappoint. He started off his speech talking about his “Famous” music video and the controversy that has surrounding it. He even shocked us all when he shouted out Ray J and his ex Amber Rose! But in all seriousness, he spoke about his, and other celebs’ influences to the world. "It's three keys to keeping people impoverished,” Ye said. “That's taking away their esteem, taking away their resources and taking away their role models. My role models are artists, merchants, less than 10 that I can name in history: Truman, Ford, Hughes, Disney, Jobs, West." He closed, "We are undeniably the influence, the thought leaders. I'm gonna play ya'll a piece of my art and I just hope ya'll have a good time." Then, he played his new video “Fade” starring Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert -- and boy, was this video memorable!

7. Ariana Grande And Nicki Minaj’s Dope Performance Of “Side To Side"

Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj performed their sexy new single "Side To Side" tonight and it was H-O-T. Ari first started serving us with Soul Cycle vibes, squats and arm-pumping moves in her gym-inspired set. That’s when Nicki came out and shut the stage down with her bars -- and sexy pink one piece. The two were a match made in music and VMA heaven.

8. And Nick Jonas’s bulge: Return Of The NARB?

After Nick Jonas got up on stage outside MSG to finish performing “Bacon” … the internet couldn’t help but notice his … um … bulge.

9. That Time Halsey Almost Made Out With Drew From The Chainsmokers

10. Kanye West Shading Kim Kardashian?

We’re going to be completely honest. Though we know that Ye wasn’t really shading his wifey, the night was full of gifs that sure made it look that way -- and they were pretty hilarious! See what we're talking about right here.

11. AUBRIH <3

Rihanna gave an amazing, career-spanning four-part performance in honor of receiving this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. She sang many of her hits from over the last 10+ years. But the crowning moment was being presented with the actual award by her boo, Drake. All of the AubRih feels came pouring out. While talking about her and her career, he declared: “She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old. She's one of my best friends in the world."
