Before Adele, Sia and Mariah Carey, James Corden kickstarted the idea behind his beloved "Carpool Karaoke" segment with the one and only George Michael. After word of the pop icon's unfortunate death at just 53-years-old, the comedian's 2011 segment for the British anti-poverty charity Comic Relief has gone viral and it's a must-watch for any Michael fan.

During the segment, Corden is seen in character as Smithy from his BBC sitcom "Gavin & Stacey" as he and the pop star drive around town and, of course, churn out Wham! sing-a-longs for 1984's "Freedom" and 1986's "I'm Your Man."

"My original idea was to pick George Michael up from prison in a car and then we realized, 'Maybe we’ll lose the prison, but what if there’s still some fun for me and George to be in the car and we’ll sing some Wham! songs?'" Corden told Stephen Colbert back in June on The Late Show. "There was something very joyful about it. We wondered if it was an idea ... Los Angeles, traffic, car pool lanes, karaoke, driving people in the car, singing."

When Michael's death was announced via his rep on Christmas day, it goes without saying that the news saddened the comedian. Corden, along with a string of other stars, took to social media to tribute the late pop icon shortly afterwards.
