Shoutout to Chance The Rapper! The Chicago MC just won the Best New Artist and the Best Rap Album awards at the 2017 Grammys.
The Best New Artist honor was presented to Chance by Jennifer Lopez, who first reminisced about her first Grammys nomination -- not the mention the unforgettable dress she wore -- before bestowing the award to the "No Problem" rapper. As soon as J. Lo announced Chance as the winner, the crowd at the show erupted and so did rap fans on social media.
Every year, we go through this...the Grammys somehow manage to fumble the winners in regards to hip hop and R&B recording artists. So, when Chance won for Best New Artist AND Best Rap Album for Coloring Book -- Yes, his MIXTAPE, not album; everyone was overjoyed and relieved that the show got these one rights...this time.
And if you wanted another reason to love Chance's wins even more, here it is. By the rapper taking home the Best New Artist award, Chance became the first black hip-hop artist to win Best New Artist at the Grammys since Lauryn Hill in 1999.
Moreover in the Best Rap Album category, Chance beat some hip hop heavyweights' works like De La Soul's And The Anonymous Nobody, DJ Khaled's Major Key, Drake's Views, ScHoolboy Q's Blank Face LP and Kanye West's The Life Of Pablo. Unbelievable! But, believe it. Chance won this award without selling any physical copies of his mixtapes, and while facing serious competition. That demands nothing but respect.
We think we speak for all Chance lovers when we say the Grammys made the right choice when they gave him these awards. The show knew it didn't want no problems with us.
