Clap for Aubrey! Drake made Billboard Music Awards history by becoming the most awarded person at the awards show in a single night. He won 13 honors!
The rapper was initially nominated in 22 different categories. But, before the show even started, we already learned that he won 10. These wins were in the categories of Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Album, Top Rap Tour, Top R&B Song, Top R&B Collaboration, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Streaming Song (Audio), Top Song Sales Artist and Top Streaming Songs Artist.
He only needed to win three more awards in order to go down in the award show's history -- and he did. It all came down to the last award of the night, which was the Top Artist honor. Michael Jackson's eldest son, Prince Michael Jackson, presented the honor. After the nominees were announced, Prince proudly announced that Drake was the winner and the rest was Billboard history.
The Toronto MC beat out the likes of Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Adele, The Weeknd, twenty one pilots, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes and The Chainsmokers for the honor. Adele previously held the record after winning 12 awards back at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. “I got my whole family up here,” Drake said when he took the stage to accept the Top Artist award and celebrate having more wins in a single night at the show. He was accompanied by his father, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and a couple dozen of Young Money squad members who were serving all types of goals with their homie Drizzy.
Shoutout to you, Drake. You the realest. Watch his acceptance speech/victory lap below.
