This fight went down because Solange was reportedly upset about the way that JAY was treating her sister. No one knew for sure, at the time. But, everyone speculated that Solange accused Hov of flirting with other women -- including fashion designer Rachel Roy -- at the party they were leaving. It would be years before JAY revealed on his latest album that he was unfaithful to Bey before.
Now, we've just learned of a weird twist that connects this fight to the title of JAY's 4:44 album. The altercation took place at the New York Hotel. The Standard’s Le Bain, which sits on top of this infamous hotel is addressed 444 West 13th Street. So, 444 is both the name of Hov's project and is the address of the area that his "Elevator-gate" occurred.
A Twitter user named Stephen Ossola discovered this. "I'm at The Standard where Solange beat Jay-Z's ass in the elevator. THE ADDRESS IS 444. I AM SHOOK," his tweet read. See it below.

For the release of 4:44, JAY-Z told iHeartRadio about how he came to name the title track. “I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 a.m., to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything,” he said. “It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.” We're sure this little detail about the hotel's address must have slipped his mind...if he even realized it.
The number 4 is extremely powerful in Bey and JAY's lives. The rapper's B-Day is Dec. 4, Bey's B-Day is Sept. 4, the couple's wedding anniversary is April 4, they both gave their oldest daughter the middle name Ivy (the Roman numerical for four, IV) and more. What a powerful role 4 plays in JAY and Bey's existences, indeed.
