They explain, "We've been talking about covering 'XO' by Beyoncé for years. It's one of those moments where you don't forget the first time you hear the song, and it speaks to you on that level, 'XO' is a moment like that for all of us. We were on tour, all of us losing our minds about this Beyoncé tune that had just come into the world. And we tried it a few times, we tried it with big production, and it always seemed, somehow, wrong, or somehow inferior to ... I mean, obviously, she's an untouchable vocalist."
The Honda Stage platform celebrates determined, breakout artists, much like CHVRCHES. The band, from Glasgow, Scotland, consists of of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty, and over the last several years, have taken the synth pop/indie world by storm with two (about to be three) full-length LPs, three EPs, numerous tours, and have amassed a loyal following.
