Journey super fan Joel Euceda has been sharing his undying love of Journey and other '80s hitmakers to subway riders in New York City for three days a week for the past year or so.
Armed with a microphone, a speaker and a boombox, Joel sings his heart out on Journey songs like "Don't Stop Believin'," "Anyway You Want It" and "Separate Ways." Joel mixes up his set with songs by Survivor, A-Ha and Rod Stewart. He knows all the words by heart!
Joel says his dream is to meet former Journey singer Steve Perry, saying to his followers in a video from March, "If you’re Steve Perry’s friend, or cousin, could you please let me know, contact me and maybe could tell Steve Perry if he is not too busy if he could come to New York or if I could come to California? He’s my favorite guy."
The aspiring rocker added that he regrets missing Steve Perry last April when we was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Journey at Barclays Center.
Joel's enthusiasm is contagious, and he was even recently invited to perform at the Mmuseumm, museum of the modern world 2018, grand opening.
You can check out Joel's videos on his Instagram profile @joelloves80s. And of course, if you're Steve Perry's friend, put him in touch!
Journey is going on tour this summer with Def Leppard in what the two bands promise will be the "tour of the year."
Perry, however, has mostly stayed out of the public eye since leaving Journey in 1998, though the singer's legend and influence has persisted over the years. Perry is often spotted at San Francisco Giants home games, the occasional gala event and recently at Jerry Cantrell's birthday party.
