American Idol Renewed for Season 2 on ABC

American Idol is here to stay. The ABC revival of the legendary singing competition has been greenlit for a second season, and judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie as well as longtime host Ryan Seacrest are also confirmed to return. Luke took to social media to react to the second season renewal. “It’s all because of you guys, the music fans out there, for bringing it back. Thanks for tuning in this season. Keep voting on this season. And we’re so excited we get year two,” he said from his pick-up truck. The Idol reboot’ has been Sunday’s No. 1 entertainment broadcast series in each of its eight telecasts this season, delivering ABC’s best rating in the 8-10 time slot in four years.American Idol originally debuted on Fox in 2002 and dominated for 15 seasons before being canceled in spring of 2016. The current season continues with the top seven taking the stage live on both coasts Sunday (May 6) on ABC.
