Arctic Monkeys Go Retro For 'Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino' Video

By Katrina Nattress

July 23, 2018

Arctic Monkeys shared the video for the title track of their latest album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, today (July 23) and the visuals hit that sweet spot between retro and futuristic.

Directed by Ben Chappell and Aaron Brown, the neon-tinged clip was filmed in Reno, Nevada and shows singer Alex Turner as the song's main character, Mark, who works at the hotel (and rocks a pretty sweet white bellbottom suit). "Good afternoon/ Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino/ Mark speaking/ Please, tell me, how may I direct your call?" Turner nonchalantly croons in the chorus.

The cinematic production is reminiscent of the band's first video from the new album, "Four Out of Five." Watch the video below.

Turner recently chatted with iHeartRadio about the album and its title track. "The [chorus] and the song came from the idea of the character in the song, Mark," he explained. "I think I pictured him on the phone, first of all, and the place where he was after that, and subsequently gave the record the title, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino because it just clicked into place. I think of some of my favorite records as places that you can go and stay for a while, and sort of spurred me on to give this record the name of a place."

The video dropped on the eve of the band's North American tour, which sees them traverse the country before heading back to the UK and back to the U.S. this fall. Check out the full list of tour dates below.
