Yoko Ono Includes Version of John Lennon's "Imagine" on New Album

The track listing for Yoko Ono's upcoming new album has been revealed and the final track is a familiar one to fans of Ono's late husband, John Lennon, though Lennon fans would be surprised if Ono's "Imagine" sounded anything like Lennon's.

Ono's version of "Imagine" comes after she was awarded co-writing credit on the 1971 anti-war anthem in 2016, as part of the National Music Publishers Association's Centennial Song Award.

Lennon's widow was awarded the credit based in part on a 1980 interview in which Lennon revealed that he took the concept from Ono's book, Grapefruit. Lennon suggested Ono and he should share writing credit on the song.

The former Beatles said at the time that excluding Ono as a co-writer was "selfish" of him.

Ono's new album, Warzone, is a collection of new takes on older material of hers, plus "Imagine."

Ultimate Classic Rock points out that the album's title track is a reworked version of a song from Ono's 1996 Rising album.

On October 9, a new book covering the creation of Lennon's Imagine album is due in stores. Titled Imagine John Yoko, the volume reportedly includes remembrances from dozens of people close to Lennon and Ono at the time the album was written and recorded.

Ono's Warzone album will be available October 19.
