Yes, folks! The world was about "four-five seconds" away from a Kanye West produced Paul McCartney album. In GQ's latest cover story, the legendary Beatles singer, opened up about his work relationship with Mr. West, dating back to 2014, and how Kanye asked to produce his latest album, Egyptian Station.
“[Kanye West] did very kindly offer to produce this album,” Paul said. “And then I thought, no, I kind of knew what direction I wanted to go in. And I knew that would be very different from where Kanye would go with it.”
While Paul said the question seemed to be more of a fleeting thought for Ye, he was initially intrigued by the "All Mine" rapper's request. “I said, ‘That’s great, wow,’” Paul admitted. “I’m just amazed that he said it. And then we never talked about it again. It was just a thought that was thrown away. I certainly thought about it and got very excited and thought, ‘That’s something, there’s no denying that … but is it something I want to do?’ There’s the thing. And I thought, ‘Maybe not.'”
As fans know, the two have collaborated on three songs in the past, including, "All Day," Rihanna's "FourFiveSeconds," and "Only One" (featuring Ty Dolla $ign). While Paul confessed that Kanye has a different approach to creating music than he does, he respects his artistry and enjoys working with him.
"If I want to go somewhere else from where I normally go or where I'm expected to go, I'll go," he shared, referencing his decision to collab with Kanye in the past. "And if I enjoy it, that's enough for me. The great thing is, all sorts of hysterical things come out of it. I mean, there's a lot of people think Kanye discovered me. And that's not a joke."
Kanye has produced five albums in 2018 thus far, including his joint album with Kid Cudi, Kids See Ghosts, Teyana Taylor's KTSE, Nas' Nasir, Pusha T's Daytona, and his solo project. Ye.
