Mac Miller's family plans on celebrating the late rapper's life with the just-announced benefit concert, "Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life," which will feature performances from the likes of Chance the Rapper, SZA, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, John Mayer, Travis Scott, Thundercat, and more.
On Tuesday (October 2), the benefit show was announced, detailing the Los Angeles' Greek Theatre production, which is set for October 31st. The concert will honor the launch of the Mac Miller Circles Fund, which is dedicated to "programming, resources and opportunities to youth from underserved communities, helping them recognize their full potential through exploration in the arts and community building." Tickets go on sale this Friday via Ticketmaster.
"He was pure artistry -- constantly creating, seeking, and discovering new ways to be both a source of inspiration and catalyst for new artists," the rapper's 4 Strikes management team, Kelly Clancy and Christian Clancy, wrote in a statement. "We were fortunate, not only to work with Malcolm and watch his music evolve, but to witness his own personal evolution that included a strong focus on building bridges and opening doors for anyone and everyone he encountered."
Mac's mother Karen Meyes also chimed in on the concert, writing, "The support we've experienced is evident in this amazing lineup and is a testament to Malcolm's incredible life. He was a caring, loving human with a smile that could light up the sky and a soul that was out to make the world a kinder place and the MMCF will continue to do just that."
Word of Mac Miller's untimely death filled the blogosphere on September 7th after TMZ reported that the rapper passed away from an apparent overdose. Stars like Chance, Shawn Mendes and Diplo took to social media after the news broke to remember the late rapper, who was only 26-years-old. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Mac was found around noon at his San Fernando Valley home and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities were reportedly alerted by a male friend who called 911 from the star's residence. Miller's cause of death comes after a long struggle with substance abuse, which was reportedly the reason for his breakup with Ariana Grande.
