Is a Nirvana Reunion Really Happening This Weekend?

Foo Fighters did not appear to be dismayed by the trolls' reactions to their brief collaboration with former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic last month in Seattle.
In fact, it may have given them an idea!
Foo Fighters keep teasing something surprising for the Cal Jam festival this weekend (October 5 - 6). While the clues are awfully vague, they add up to something that smells like Nirvana.
For one thing, we know Novoselic will be at the festival, performing with his new avant garde band Giants in the Trees.
Second, the official Nirvana Twitter account has retweeted several cryptic Foo Fighters posts about Cal Jam. The Nirvana account doesn't often promote Foo Fighters in its feed.
But it gets more interesting than that.

When Cal Jam announced that Joan Jett was joining in on the festivities, the Foo Fighters' official Twitter account retweeted and teased a potential collaboration. This is significant because Jett performed with Nirvana during its 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
But the Cal Jam lineup also includes Deer Tick, whose frontman John McCauley also took part in the Nirvana reunion in 2014.
A Tweet from Foo Fighters on Thursday went out of its way to mention Deer Tick, McCauley and Novoselic. It also hash tagged Foo Fighters guitarist and former Nirvana touring member Pat Smear.
Grohl famously avoided talk of Nirvana for years after the Kurt Cobain's death, but he's been much more inclined in recent years to document his experience with the band.
Grohl even sat in on drums for a rendition of "In Bloom" with Trombone Shorty at an L.A. festival in September. It was just the second time Grohl performed the song since Nirvana's break up.
So will Foo Fighters try a new Nirvana tunes this weekend? Will "Nirvana" play a surprise set?
We only have to wait until Saturday night to find out.
