Imagine Dragons has pulled out from playing the 2018 American Music Awards.

The band made the announcement on social media Saturday (October 6), citing private matters for their resignation from the annual music ceremony. "We're very sorry to share that we're no longer able to perform at this year's @AMAs due to a personal family matter," the group shared in a statement on Twitter over the weekend. "Sending lots of love to the other performers, and we'll be there in spirit."

The "Thunder" rockers, who were intended to play at the 44th annual music ceremony this Tuesday (October 9), are currently up for Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group and Favorite Alternative Rock Artist.

Other acts scheduled to perform at the event hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross include Jennifer Lopez, Twenty One PilotsDua Lipa, Shawn Mendes with Zedd, Camila Cabello and others. Taylor Swift will open the function.

The unfortunate news arrives days after the Grammy-winning troupe advertised the November 9 release date for their upcoming fourth studio album, Origins. The 15-track EP includes previously-released records "Zero" and "Natural," and follows their critically-acclaimed LP Evolve, which dropped last June.

“It’s about seeking new ground but also appreciating your roots,” frontman Dan Reynolds said in a statement about the record to Billboard. “When we create, we create with no boundaries, no rules. We find it thrilling to make music that feels different and new to us.”

Imagine Dragons previously suffered performance cancellations at the start of their mainstream success due to Reynolds' ongoing battle with Ankylosing Spondylitis.

The 2018 Annual American Music Awards air live from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater at 8 PM ET on ABC. See the complete list of 2018 AMAs nominees here.
