Dolly Parton arrived in California on Monday to play a one song showcase where she performed her song, “Girl in the Movies.” The track was written for her film, ‘Dumplin’ which premieres in theaters on December 7th.

An icon of entertainment, Parton always stands to make a statement.  “We’re out here politicking and trying to get us an Oscar,” says Parton as she stood in front of press inside a Beverly Hills’ Four Seasons hotel on Monday. It was a statement grounded in sincerity but delivered with an award-winning smile.

‘Dumplin’ is female-driven on and off the big screen. Based on the 2015 Julie Murphy novel, Kristin Hahn curated the screenplay, and Anne Fletcher directs the film. 4 Non Blonde’s frontwoman Linda Perry helped pen 6 of the original songs soundtrack which includes collaborations with Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, Elle King, Alison Krauss, Miley Cyrus, Rhonda Vincentas well as the film’s stars, Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald.

Parton faces stiff competition as she races to claim Oscar gold. 'A Star Is Born' and 'Mary Poppins Returns' are two musical juggernauts that will also be running for the title this season.
