Pete Wentz Talks "Yule Shoot Your Eye Out," What Christmas Means to Him Now

Before Fall Out Boy were selling out stadiums around the globe, their main goal was headlining The Metro in their hometown of Chicago. When that dream came to fruition in 2002, the band thought they should play something new to mark the occasion.

"It was just the biggest moment for us," FOB bassist Pete Wentz told Noisey in a recent interview. "We wanted to do something for the people who would be in the crowd."

Since the show was slated for December 22, the pop punk outfit thought it would be fun to write a holiday song, only they kind of hated Christmas. The result was one of our favorite Alternative holiday songs, "Yule Shoot Your Eye Out." The disgruntled, anti-Christmas anthem about wishing the worst on an ex is still one of the best pop punk holiday tunes around. Pop culture references (we love you A Christmas Story), puns, emo lyrics...what's not to love?

Though the 39-year-old admittedly did not like the holidays growing up, things are different now that he has three children of his own. "Now I get to be Santa, which gives you a whole other perspective," he said. "I think trying to make sure it's fun and you are creating traditions for your kids without going full Elf on the Shelf dad has been the mission for me."
