Ed Sheeran To Release Signature Handmade Acoustic Guitars With Lowden

Ed Sheeran fans can now own the same guitars as the Grammy-winning artist with thanks to his latest project.

On Thursday (January 24), the 27-year-old announced his upcoming line of handcrafted acoustic guitars in collaboration with the high-quality Northern Ireland guitar company Lowden. The project, aptly titled "Sheeran by Lowden," was unveiled during the singer-songwriter's appearance at the NAMM instrument conference in Anaheim, California.

In an interview with the brand's founder George Lowden, Sheeran said it was "any kids' dream" to have their own signature guitar, and that he'd become a fan ever since he watched his musical inspiration, Damien Rice, playing the instruments as well. Sheeran said he was "so flattered" when he was gifted his own by Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody in 2013 and hopes his new brand will inspire kids to pick up the guitar themselves.

"There are fewer guitar bands and fewer artists using guitars now, and not as many kids picking up guitars," Sheeran said. "That is something I would like to change by getting these great quality guitars, made in Ireland, into kids’ hands and encouraging them to learn and progress. To be able to work in tandem with a guitar company like Lowden to create a whole different concept has been a really cool experience."

The English performer's model, "The Wee Lowden," comes in two designs and eight styles in total. (Learn where to purchase your own here).

Sheeran is nominated for a number of 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards this year, including Song of the Year for his record "Perfect" and Male Artist of the Year.
