Recording Academy Denies Leaked Grammy Winners List Is Real
January 29, 2019
A list containing the alleged winners for the 2019 Grammy Awards leaked online this week.
Last night (January 28), the rumored list — which circulated across Twitter via a tweet supposedly depicting the apparent announcement from the Recording Academy's own website — cited future winners such as Cardi B for Record of the Year for "I Like It" as well as "Shallow" for Song of the Year from the Lady Gaga starrer A Star Is Born. What's more, the unidentified user behind the hack claimed to have intel on an even longer list of this year's Grammy victors.
Rest assured, though, the Recording Academy asserts this so-called "Grammy leak" is fake. "There is no legitimacy to this," wrote an Academy spokesperson of the scandal. "GRAMMY Awards results are not shared, even with Recording Academy staff members, until the day of the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, when names of the recipients are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes."
The Recording Academy is now considering legal recourse in light of the alleged hack , per a statement to Billboard .
Alas, the 61st annual Grammy Awards will broadcast — spoiler-free — live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10, at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on CBS.
