Meteorologist Fired Over Offensive Brain Teaser Gets Hired Again

KSWO meteorologist Mandy Bailey is full of personality and tried to make her forecasts fun, sometimes even challenging her audience with brain teasers she called mind mixers. That's just what the Oklahoma weather woman did on a recent newscast except this time, it got her fired. That's because the riddle that Bailey presented featured a noose hanging from the letter "T" in the word "THERE." The answer to the visual puzzle was supposed to be "hang in there," but many viewers couldn't get past the noose, which some associated with lynching and others with suicide. Either way, Bailey's bosses found the brain teaser to be "offensive and unacceptable" and fired her.
KSWO management put a statement on Facebook that read:
At KSWO, we do not tolerate behavior of any kind that depicts hatred, social injustice, racism or anti-Semitism. The employee responsible was terminated immediately. On behalf of all of the employees at KSWO, we offer you our sincere, heart-felt [sic] apology with a promise that we will continue to work tirelessly to earn your trust every day.
While some fans agree with the station's decision, a group of fans is campaigning to get Mandy back on air. They've started a Change.com petition and even created a GoFundMe page for the meteorologist. However, that has only raised $640 of it's $100,000 goal.
While Bailey remained off the air at her area's ABC affiliate KSWO, she did get a job at the local NBC affiliate, KTEN, where she is now bringing her weather reports to fans.
