At the end of January, iLoveMakonnen gifted us with a collaboration between him and his longtime friend, the late Lil Peep. Though the song was recorded before the emo rapper's tragic passing in 2017, the singer-rapper wanted to make it extra special before putting it out into the world, and called on Peep's heroes Fall Out Boy to lend their magic. The result is "I've Been Waiting," a high energy single that hits the sweet spot between hip-hop and rock. On Wednesday, we'll be getting the track's visual counterpart, and as Fall Out Boy hinted on Monday (April 8), the video is inspired by an original idea from Peep.
"brought @lilpeep’s world to life with @ilovemakonnen5d I’ve Been Waiting video out wednesday," the band tweeted. "creative direction by sus boy. based on an original idea from @lilpeep."
Lil Peep's official Twitter handle also teased the video: "I’ve Been Waiting video out Wednesday. Featuring Fall Out Boy and ILoveMakonnen. Creative direction by Susboy. Based on OG Lilpeep and ILoveMakonnen collab."
Check out both posts below.
“My relationship with Lil Peep was one of a kind,” Makonnen said in a statement about the song. “We were two like-minded artists collaborating to make a new style of music that the world has not heard before. It was a pleasure to work with him and his loss has been devastating.”
“I hope that the music helps bring closure and happiness. All the songs that Peep and I have worked on are special to me. I knew adding his heroes Fall Out Boy to ‘I’ve Been Waiting,’ would be a tribute to my friend and collaborator that I could feel proud of," he continued. When I called Pete [Wentz] he immediately said yes, and it came together very quickly. I’m really excited to share this with the fans.”
