Mark Hoppus Protests 'Straight Pride' By Auctioning Bass For LGBTQ+ Charity
By Lindsey Smith

Every year, cities across the world throw a Pride parade in the month of June to march for LGBTQA+ people who are still fighting for protections that aren’t guaranteed to all people in the community and in honor of those who marched, rioted, and enacted change before them.
Sadly, a group of people in Boston — who don't actually understand the need for a Pride parade — has taken it upon themselves and decided to throw a "straight pride" at the end of August after filing a discrimination complaint with the city. *Enter the viral blinking GIF here.*
When blink-182's Mark Hoppus heard about what was going on, he took to Twitter to take a stand against the parade. The iconic bassist not only pledged to auction off a bass to raise money in protest, but he promised to match the final bid dollar-for-dollar. All of the money will be going straight to the Trevor Project; a national 24-hour, toll-free confidential suicide hotline for LGBTQ youth.
He wrote: "To celebrate how utterly ridiculous a Straight Pride parade is, I’m going to auction off one of my basses, match the final bid dollar-for-dollar, and donate all the money to the @TrevorProject."
World Pride 2019 is on its way and iHeartPride is celebrating the monumental June celebration with all kinds of coverage. iHeartRadio, Z100 New York and 103.5 KTU are Presenting Media Sponsors for NYC Pride and we’re taking the milestone to heart with LGBTQ-focused coverage on everything from entertainment, politics and details on the summer festivities. After all, it does coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising.
