A$AP Rocky has been charged with assault over a brawl in Stockholm, Sweden, Associated Press reports.
On Thursday (July 25), a Swedish prosecutor Daniel Suneson filed the charges against the rapper, who has remained in custody since his July 3 arrest, and two others on “suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”
The Grammy-nominated emcee was detained for his alleged involvement in a fight that transpired on June 30 before he was set to play a music festival. It was said Rocky and two of his men were arrested for brawling with two other men they said had been harassing them.
Although the 30-year-old's defense lawyer claims Rocky's part in the melee was in self-defense, per video evidence that showed the star violently throwing another person onto the ground, Suneson presented a different assessment of the footage.
“It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet,” he told the press. “In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”
Originally, two parties in the case claimed injury from the assault. However, one of the claims were tossed out due to "insufficient supporting evidence." Rocky's bodyguard, who allegedly suffered a head wound in the altercation, filed a counter-allegation against one of the alleged victims which also closed this week.
As of yet, the three suspects will remain in custody until Stockholm District Court announces its trial date, sometime next week.
