Fans are remembering Mac Miller one year after the late rapper released his last LP.
Today (August 3) marks the one-year anniversary since Miller delivered his fifth and final album of his lifetime, Swimming, before the star tragically died one month later. As you know, the rapper was 26-years-old when he passed away of an accidental drug overdose at his home in San Fernando Valley on September 7. Before his untimely death, Miller had been supporting Swimming with previously-released singles “Small Worlds,” “Self Care,” and “What’s the Use.” He even plotted to embark on a 26-concert jaunt with “The Swimming Tour” in October 2018, and to the amazement of Miller's fanbase, Swimming garnered a nomination for Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
News of Miller's passing sent shockwaves throughout the hip-hop community and continues to strike a chord with the Pittsburgh native's devoted followers. Now, in a concerted effort to pay homage to the masterpiece he left in his wake, fans have started trending the hashtag #RIPMacMiller on Twitter to commemorate Miller's enduring legacy.
"#ripmacmiller I’m sorry you never got what you deserved in life hope you’re smiling hard in heaven," one user tweeted, as another added: "It’s strange to miss someone you’ve never met, but that’s how it is. I listen to your music every day and Swimming is an absolute masterpiece. #ripmacmiller you are a legend."
As previously announced by the Mac Miller Memoir Twitter account, a vigil will be held at Blue Slide Park on the one-year anniversary of Miller's death, on September 7, 2019.
