Jane Fonda was arrested again while protesting climate change outside the U.S. Capitol building.
On Friday (October 18), Fonda was detained during a protest over climate change in Washington, D.C., alongside Grace and Frankie costar Sam Waterston. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the stars were among 17 individuals detained by Capitol police yesterday for crowding, obstructing or incommoding, and unlawfully demonstrating.
This marks the second time Fonda was booked during the rally. She was previously taken into police custody on October 11 on similar charges with 16 other protesters.
Earlier this month, Fonda revealed her plans to hold weekly civil disobedience demonstrations at the nation's capitol called “Fire Drill Fridays,” a movement aimed to push policymakers into addressing climate change. As noted in a press release, she’s stated her commitment to going through with the campaign until at least mid-January, and has since invited fellow celebrities, economists, scientists, and others to join her at the rallies.
"I will be on the Capitol every Friday, rain or shine, inspired and emboldened by the incredible movement our youth have created," the 81-year-old actress shared on her website. "I can no longer stand by and let our elected officials ignore — and even worse — empower — the industries that are destroying our planet for profit. We can not continue to stand for this.”
