Keith Urban And Eric Church Team Up For New Release Of 'We Were'

Urban previously revealed that when he first cut the track, he had no idea Church was one of the co-writers. "I didn't know he was a writer, which was really cool, because it wasn't until we recorded the song, it was all done, and I found out after the fact" Urban said on the Bobby Bones Show. "I found out and I called Eric, and I was like, ‘Dude, I just cut this song.’ He was thrilled. I said, ‘I had no idea that you were a writer on it.’"
As it turns out, the song ended up being way more fitting for Urban’s life than Church’s. “I didn’t send Keith the song and say, ‘Here’s a song I wrote.’ He found it, and honestly, it fits him more than it fits me,” Church shares adding, "I truly believe songs find the path that they're supposed to find, and one was supposed to be with him."
Urban released the original version of "We Were" back in May of 2019. Since then, he's also shared an acoustic version of the song which is now followed up by the new collaboration. Church and Urban come together to sing the reminiscent, heartfelt lyrics, "I am who I am / I just miss who I was when we were."
The new "We Were" collaboration marks Urban and Church's first time teaming up since 2013's "Raise 'Em Up." The new collaboration comes just a few weeks before the 2019 CMA Awards on November 13. Both artists are nominated for CMA Entertainer of the Year.
