Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton & Reba Open CMAs With Epic Tribute To Women
By Hayden Brooks
November 14, 2019
Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton opened the 2019 CMAs with the perfect opening monologue, but the ceremony's intro all-female performance included basically every woman in country music paying tribute to one another and the one and only Loretta Lynn.
Aside from the aforementioned hosts, Terri Clark, Sara Evans, Crystal Gayle, The Highwomen, Martina McBride, Jennifer Nettles, Tanya Tucker, Gretchen Wilson and more female titans helped contribute to the number and if they weren't on-stage, they were in the audience cheering along. Cameras frequently panned to Lynn, who sat in her seat watching the batch of women venture through the roaring number.
The performance kicked off with Underwood, McEntire and Parton singing "Those Memories of you," before cameras panned to Sugarland's Nettles and Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, who covered Lynn's classic "You're Lookin' at Country." Afterwards, another stage featuring The Highwomen (Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires and Natalie Hemby) and Parton saw the batch of women sing Tammy Wynette’s "Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad,” before Tucker joined in on her 1972 smash "Delta Dawn."
Gretchen Wilson appeared for her hit "Redneck Woman," before Crystal Gayle offered up "Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," Terri Clark delivered "Better Things to Do" and Evans joined in on the festivity with "Born to Fly." It all culminated in a finale number, where the entire crew of females ended with McBride's "Independence Day."
As you might have expected, Twitter went wild over the collaboration and we've rounded up the best reactions to the all-star team-up. Scroll on below to see what folks were saying about the female-only number.
