In a recent interview, the country singer revealed that Mayer’s song, “Edge of Desire” from his 2009 album, Battle Studies, played a pivotal role in their relationship. The deep cut track prompted a reconciliation at a time they needed it most.
"There's a song that I remember it came on in the car back several years ago when we were, like, on the verge of maybe breaking up," Hunt shares. "And the tension that was in the vehicle while that song played, I think, kept us together. It was a John Mayer song called 'Edge of Desire.'"
He adds, "I always remember that. If I ever hear that song, I think about that moment. She was through with me, she was [like] 'I'm done.' And I was taking her back to her car, and that song came on. Then there was just something; some tension came into the car that was like, OK, there's something here. … I've got to give him a little credit for that."
After dating on and off again, Hunt and Fowler's eventually tied the knot in 2017. Since then, she's been a huge inspiration for Hunt's music. The name of his debut album, Montevallo, was inspired by her along with a handful of the songs on it.
Last month, Hunt made his return to music with the release of his new single, "Kinfolks." This is the singer's first song shared since 2018's "Downtown's Dead," which followed his 2017 hit, "Body Like A Back Road."
Hunt has revealed that new music is coming and this time fans won't have to wait so long to hear it. "I've got another song coming out here in a couple of weeks," he shares. "I'm turning in the record in January, and it'll come out before we start touring in the summer. So I don't know an exact date but within that window."
Stay tuned for more details to come on new music from Hunt. In the meantime, take a listen to Mayer's "Edge Of Desire" below in honor of the now happy couple.
