Katy Perry had a medical emergency on the set of American Idol.
PEOPLE showed the terrifying moment in an exclusive clip (via PEOPLE below) from this week’s upcoming episode of the reality singing competition show. In the video, the “Dark Horse” singer sits at the panel with fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and that’s when she notices a strange scent.
“Do you guys smell gas? It’s pretty intense,” the 35-year-old asks the others, to which Bryan concurs, telling producers, “We’re getting heavy propane,” as Richie adds, it’s coming from a “leak.” Just as Idol producers start to figure out what’s going on, Perry stands up from her seat to leave. “I have a slight headache from it,” she warns the others, adding, “Oh it’s bad, it’s really bad.”
It’s not long before panic ensues amongst the crew members and contestants, who are all being forced to evacuate the building as sirens can be heard approaching from a distance. One of the contestants, who happened to be filming her audition, looked confused by the chaos as cameramen and staffers ushered her outside.
“This is not a joke, there really is a gas leak,” the country crooner says while among the crowd along with Richie, who notes the smell is so heavy it still lingering outside. That’s when Perry, also safely escorted from the building, appears to be succumbing to the gas. “I’m not feeling good,” she tells the producers, before falling to the ground as firefighters arrive on the scene.
It’s unclear whether Perry suffered any injuries or illness from the gas leak on the episode, which broadcasts this Sunday, February 23, at 8PM EST on ABC.
