Like many other brides all over the world, Princess Beatrice's spring wedding plans have been derailed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemcic. The granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth was set to wed Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on May 29 at Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace with a reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. A palace spokesperson has now confirmed that the princess and her fiancé are "reviewing" their wedding plans.
According to the spokesperson, Beatrice and Edoardo want to "avoid undertaking any unnecessary risks in the current circumstances." The spokesperson also added that the princess and her future husband are still "very much looking forward to getting married," however, given the ongoing situation "they are particularly conscious of government advice in relation to both the wellbeing of older family members and large gatherings of people."
As a result of this concern "the planned reception in the Buckingham Palace Gardens will not take place." Over the coming days and weeks, Beatrice and Edoardo "will carefully consider government advice before deciding whether a private marriage might take place amongst a small group of family and friends."
In addition to the health concern regarding large gatherings in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, royal expert Marlene Koenig informed Insider that many guests would likely be unable to attend due to widespread travel restrictions. "Edo has family in Italy and both have friends in Europe and in North America," she explained. "No flights, no way to get to London" for the wedding.
Two of those guests unable to attend would be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently observing social distancing at their home on Vancouver Island in Canada. Prince Harry is believed to be quite close to his cousins—Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie—so it would be quite an unfortunate situation if he was unable to see Beatrice walk down the aisle.
