Ahead of the release of her debut solo album, Petals For Armor, on May 8, Hayley Williams has been dropping smaller collections of music for fans.
She first gave fans Petals For Armor I, which featured her first solo song, “Simmer,” along with “Leave It Alone,” “Cinnamon,” “Creepin',” and “Sudden Desire.”
Now, she has completed Petals For Armor II with the release of “Dead Horse.” While it has an uptempo beat, the lyrics showcase some pretty heavy topics and themes. “It really gave me a place to put some haunted thoughts I'd carried for far too long,” she wrote on Instagram.
As many know, Williams took inspiration from the hard times of her life for her solo album, including opening up about anxiety, depression, and divorce.
“The latest single, ‘Dead Horse’ offers strength back to a younger, weaker version of myself. I feel like all of this needed to be said in order to embody the kind of woman I hope to be,” Williams said in a press statement.
This can be reflected in the song's second verse where she sings: “Sometimes it's good to be the bigger person/ But I'm so small I can't compare/ And after all, it's only fair, yeah/ I got what I deserved, I was the other woman first/ Other others on the line/ But I kept trying to make it work.”
The new track joins “Roses/Lotus/Iris/Violet,” “Over Yet,”“My Friend,” and “Why We Ever,” on Petals For Armor II.
Williams also recently announced that her forthcoming tour would be postponed due to the current coronavirus outbreak. Like many artists, she is unable to hit the road this summer for health and safety reasons.
The good news is, all current ticket holders will be able to use their tickets at the rescheduled dates once those are announced.
